Hi there!
I hope you're doing well and having a great summer thus far! I know I sure am! Recently I have been receiving requests for an update on my life after KEMI and what my next steps are, therefore I feel that it is finally time for me to share the things I have planned for the future and what I have been doing these last few weeks!
Upon my return home I found myself on a well deserved and much needed break. Between visiting with family and spending a large amount of my time with Ryan learning about combines and baling staw, I have tried to keep myself busy especially since I was used to working bizarre hours in Kentucky and constantly being busy! All in all I have been simply relaxing and trying to adjust to life at home once again. It has been truly amazing to be able to be home and kiss my beautiful niece who seemed to turn into a big girl in my time away and to play endless hours of ball and frisbee with my Awesome Aussie we all know and love, Jackson!
So now for the real reason you're all here... What am I going to do now? For those of you who know me well, you know that I always tend to set these sky high goals for myself and typically don't stop reaching or working towards them until they are achieved. I have to say, I have made myself proud this time and that is not typically an emotion I feel towards myself as I am always trying to be better and stay humble. For the last year I have been working towards obtaining a career in the animal health field with a main focus in pharmaceutical sales. There have been interviews, no call-backs, ignored phone calls and resumes, and many other challenges in this process of becomming a new college graduate. While I was in Kentucky I had the amazing opportunity to be interviewed on the phone with a pharmaceutical company for a cattle pharmaceutical rep. position. Soon after that interview I was flown from Lexington to Roanoke, Virginia for a second interview which was then followed up a few weeks later with a third interview in Missouri. The week after I moved back to Virginia I was asked to fly to Ohio to complete a job shadow/ride-along with one of the company's reps so I could get a true insight into what the job was all about.
Well folks, I am so proud and excited to say I am now a Cattle Pharmaceutical Representative with not just some pharmaceutical company, but with Boehringer Ingelheim; THE company I have been dreaming and striving and reaching for since my decision to work in animal health. I have landed what I would like to call my "dream job!"
I have officially completed my first week of onboard training, meeting the rest of the Northeast time I get the honor of working with and getting all of my things setup and geared up for my life out in the field. My territory is Western Pennsylvania with a county in New York and Ohio. Essentially I have up the 81 corridor and everything to left from what I understand. I have received my truck (I FINALLY GET THE TRUCK I'VE ALWAYS WANTED!!!), got my laptop and printer, backpack, ID badge, and many other goodies I have the great benefit of receiving for this job! I am so excited for this new journey and I am so proud to work for a company who believes in correct animal health practices, values the employee and takes care of them, and provides the resources that allow personal growth and development!! I have long work weeks and nights away from home ahead of me, but I have been working so hard to achieve this opportunity and I can't believe I can finally say I did it!
Thank you to everyone who has supported me from the very beginning! There have been several people along the way to tell me I would never make it and tell me I wouldn't achieve anything in life and although they instilled a fire inside me to be and do better, I know if it weren't for the amazing support system of those incredible people in my life I certainly wouldn't be here. As I have recently learned, it takes a village to raise a child and I can now say I understand that. It's the positive influences from all the people around you that foster your growth and success in life and I am so thankful for the village of people it took to get me to this point!
So stay tuned people! This chick is off to great places, today is my day, and I am on my way!
With love,
Mel
